AIR Update #7: The End
The most confusing thing to me about Cyrus’ initial reply is referencing Rookwood Pottery. The final piece of this exchange gives us a date – 1875. Cyrus mentions finding Niklaus’ hidden letter in his luggage next to a pair of Rookwood vases he just bought, but Rookwood wasn’t founded until 1880.
AIR Update #6: Creature
I haven’t been sleeping well lately, I have my annual performance review coming up and it’s been incredibly stressful this go around. I worry I don’t have enough work done from this particular residency to prove to my supervisors that it’s been a worthwhile endeavor, but I guess that’s a “me” problem.
Special Update: Neil’s Séance
Using a guide written in the early 20th century, Archivist-in-Residence Neil Daigle Orians holds a seance with automatic writing in an attempt to communicate with the other side in this special update.
AIR Update #4: The Séance
Not only does this confirm that Niklaus experienced these phenomena in the Cincinnati area, but also gives us a stronger sense of what he went through.
Website Update: Letters Added to Collection Page
Now that enough have been digitized, we have decided to collect all scans pertaining to our Archivist-in-Residence’s current letters project on the Collection page. We will be updating as more letters are digitized and transcribed in an attempt to make the content more accessible to our audience.

Transcript for Acquisition #0176-1175-4, a response from Niklaus from seemingly missing letter from the chain of correspondence.
AIR Update #3: Cyrus’ Response
I’m considering making some kind of animation with these prints in conjunction with a soundscape, or otherwise crafting an immersive installation using the sound as a starting point for my own pink-hued phantasmagoria.
Acquisition #0176-1075 Transcript
Transcript for Acquisition #0176-1075, a letter from Niklaus to Cyrus — signed without full surnames, date, nor location for further context.
AIR Update #2: A Startling Pink Glow
I will be taking the content of these letters and allowing them to inform my studio practice going forward – I am bustling with imagery and ideas based on what it described in this first letter alone. I’m hoping by the next update I have an example of a reactive work based on this story. Hopefully that makes all of this worth it.
AIR Update #1: Spirit Drawings
These drawings have some spectacular layers of color and texture, most likely watercolors. It’s difficult to pin down any kind of name or even date for these as they are unsigned, but what we do know is that these drawings include some of the newest acquisitions in the society’s collection.
