Artist and educator Neil Daigle Orians will be joining the staff of the Luscinia Historical Society as the inaugural Archivist-in-Residence.

Daigle Orians, an Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati, comes to the archives with advanced degrees in printmaking and art. “I have recently gained an increasingly monumental passion for spiritualist art and ephemera as it pertains to my research,” says Daigle Orians, “I cannot wait to see what lies buried within the archives!”

“Neil is a relatively new transplant to the Cincinnati area and we are thrilled to be a part of their early experiences here in Southern Ohio,” said Luscinia Historical Society Executive Director Dr. Patrick Solovey. “They bring a unique expertise to our collection and will undoubtedly thrive in our city.”

Daigle Orians’ main project will consist of digitizing the archive’s collection and posting their findings through both the AIR blog as well as our YouTube Channel. In addition to historic study, Daigle Orians will also be working on their own creative work inspired by the collection of spirit photographs, drawings, and other spiritualist ephemera.

Starting in August, regular open house hours will be available for the public to visit the Archives and have a first hand experience with our collection, with guided tours from our AIR available upon request. In addition to access to our collection, our AIR will receive an honorarium valued at $5000/6 months in the form of a non-deductible in-kind donation to the Luscinia Historical Society.
